July 2019

It is 8 years since I wrote my first piece for the Trinity newsletter as I started my time with you. I have recently re-read the words. These words were written as I reflected on the start of another chapter in the Trinity Baptist Church story which was about to begin. As I step down and Dave takes on the role of minister I once again reflect and look forward to the next phase in Trinity’s story with excitement.

It seems so clear to me and so right that Dave takes on this role. He has a vision and a call from God for the role and I look forward to his ordination and induction when I will have the honour and privilege of representing the NWBA in my new role of NWBA Church Life Minister.

Rachel and I are going to remain members at Trinity seeking to give our support to Dave. We urge you to do the same. It is not easy being a minister, I didn’t realise this until I became one, and there is a need for us to encourage and support those who are called by God to fulfil this role within the church. Dave is God’s man with many gifts. Let us be those who support him in such a way that those gifts reach their full potential.

Having re-read the first piece I ever wrote for you at Trinity I’m going to finish my last piece by quoting words from 8 years ago. They still seem very apt and right:

‘Our past is valid and has significance in so many ways. Let us never make light of what has been. It is good to remember our first steps as God was revealed to us through Jesus. We are all on a journey … It has been, and hopefully will continue to be a journey of discovery, a journey of challenges, a journey of hope. In all of the journey’s highs and lows never let us take our focus from Jesus, our Lord in whose family we each have a place. A family in whose membership we delight as we seek to worship our Lord, Jesus Christ.

May his love, in all its completeness, be your continued experience.’

My hope is that we will continue to know the truth of these words.

Thank you for the way you have supported me as I have tried to support you in your Christian journey.

God bless
